SalaryIQ Methodology

How Salary Benchmarks Are Calculated

SalaryIQ aggregates salary evidence from multiple independent sources — government statistics, recruitment salary guides, salary platforms, and curated reports — to produce transparent, source-attributed benchmarks. Every number on every page traces to actual data, never fabricated values.

Evidence Sources

Our Australia data comes from the following canonical providers:

  • Australian Bureau of Statistics — Government earnings statistics (Official Earnings (government statistics))
  • Fair Work Commission — Award minimum wage floors (Regulatory Floor (minimum wage/award))
  • Hays — Recruitment salary guide (AU/NZ) (Market Salary (recruitment/curated))
  • Australian Public Service Pay Scales — Federal government pay scales (Public Sector Pay Scale)
  • NSW Health Pay Scales — New South Wales health sector pay scales (Public Sector Pay Scale)
  • Talent.com — Salary aggregator (Salary Platform Estimate)
  • Payscale — Global salary platform (Salary Platform Estimate)
  • Levels.fyi — Tech salary platform (Salary Platform Estimate)
  • Indeed — Global job board (Advertised Salary (job posting))
  • SEEK — Job board salary insights (AU/NZ) (Advertised Salary (job posting))

Coverage Tiers

Each role page is classified into one of four coverage tiers based on the depth and diversity of available evidence:

STRONG — 4+ contributing sources with 8+ records. High confidence benchmark.
GOOD — 2–3 sources with adequate records, or 4+ sources with fewer records. Useful benchmark.
WEAK — Limited evidence (1 source, or few records). Not indexed by search engines.
ZERO — No eligible salary data found for this role. Page returns 404.

Evidence Semantics

Each salary record is classified by its semantic meaning — what the number actually represents:

  • Advertised Salary (job posting)
  • Internal Hiring Evidence (9cv9)
  • Market Salary (recruitment/curated)
  • Official Earnings (government statistics)
  • Other / Unclassified
  • Public Sector Pay Scale
  • Regulatory Floor (minimum wage/award)
  • Salary Platform Estimate

Benchmark Eligibility

Not all records contribute to the market salary benchmark. Only records with market-compatible semantics (market salary, advertised salary, platform estimates, internal hiring evidence) and annual or monthly periods are eligible. Public-sector pay scales, official government earnings, and regulatory floors are excluded from the market aggregate but remain visible in source breakdowns.
